The Crafted Conversation

On the Podcast this week…

Statements as a Means of Measuring Learning

In this solo episode, Marcus discusses the concept of offering statements within the Learning Design in elite sport settings. Statements are a powerful alternative to questions, which allow athletes/learners to demonstrate what they know via retrieval of prior knowledge, elaboration to context, and encoding new information as a more powerful memory trace.

Statements also remove judgement because there is no need to seek a "correct" response.

Instead of:

"how can our system create space out wide?” We exchange for: "our system allows us to create space in wide areas. Discuss."

This week’s insight: I’ve been thinking about…

AI use in Elite Sport

Artificial Intelligence has become so much more than a baaaaad Jude Law film in the early 00s (look it up, wow!).

AI is with us and I make what I hope is effective use of Chat GPT as my primary mode of support daily.

What has struck me is the opportunities it can bring for elite sport, or performance sport in schools. Essentially, AI is the internet. All of it. So every last detail, statistic, data set, result, formation, etc. published on the web is available as a resource.

I have found AI useful in the following ways with professional football clubs I work with:

1. Fact check pre-match analysis and reveal any blind spots

2. As it to devise a game strategy as the opponent which would affect our own, to reveal possible tactical nuances before the game, rather than in-play

3. Summarise and provide thematic analysis of player surveys and other opportunities to utilise voice
