Week #23 Self Regulation
Self regulation is a more powerful tool than self-control. Self-control is about inhibiting emotions in the moment; whereas self-regulation is about practices and methods which support limiting and controlling such emotions.
Developing Self-Regulation isn't just a strategy—it's a mindset which translates into daily habits, routines, and instructional culture. Coaches, leaders and teachers should be aiming for learning that lasts and performance that sustains.

Explore in Your Practice
1. Task learners to be able to articulate (speak and describe) their plans and ways in which they review their achievements/progress [Learning Design]
2. Set clear boundaries on a task (eg. 6v6 players with +2 magic men who can receive the ball from the team in possession) but then scaffold/guide/support exploration to achieve success in the task (eg. receive the ball in-possession in an end zone) [Learning Design]
3. Judge behaviour in relation to our own personal standards and broader, more contextual standards. In order to do so, having clearly defined standards/behaviours/practices and social norms are essential as a standard to measure against [Learning Environment]
4. Strongly encourage self-reflection on progress and overall performance (eg. observing game clips for analysis after a match or responding to feedback on a recent strategy paper written for work). In this stage synthesis on everything which has been learned, successes, and failures allows for reflection on the experience, learning what works and what should be altered or replaced with a new strategy for the future [Learning Critique]
